Lovin’ It By The Spoonful And Forkful And Enjoying the “Summer In The City”

As I stroll the streets of Chicago… drive through old neighborhoods I used to visit… See old friends… No, not old… college friends, still young in heart and mind, all of us… I cannot help but rediscover my love for this town…
If you have never been to Chicago, you must come.  The Spring is perfect… so is the Fall.  The Winter, not so much.  The Summer… It all depends.  Yesterday was boiling.  Today was not as bad.
But summers in many cities are glorious, and Chicago is on the top of the list.
So go explore the city you are in, walk as much as you can and blast this song.
The Lovin’ Spoonful – “Summer In The City” (Written by Mark Sebastian and Steve Boone)
“Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the cityAll around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match headBut at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Cool town, evening in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty
Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
Till I’m wheezing like a bus stop
Running up the stairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop

But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city”

  1. When I was there in Nov I came across a great blues and jazz record store called Jazz Blues Record Mart on East Illinois Street. World’ s largest. Amazing place and , sadly, a dying breed.
