I don’t know… It’s Monday…
This is an Australian band formed in the 1990’s … Not sure how I found them, but it is obviously a recent discovery, thus being new music for me…
They are classified as “indie” and compared to Teenage Fanclub, Pavement and Death Cab For Cutie. If you are a regular reader, you know how much I love and adore Teenage Fanclub… Death Cab For Cuties is up there, too… I know Pavement, of course, but I cannot say that I have listened to them in a while, so I have added them back into the ‘ol music queue. Hey, that is part of what this blog was started for… for me to go back and listen to all the music I have that gets lost in the shuffle!!!
Youth Group – Casino Twilight Dogs
“Forever Young”, their cover of the Alphaville song, is the hit song off this album and quite a good track. It was featured on The O.C. and is what brought them to the attention of a lot of US fans… I love how many bands that show broke!!!
AllMusic also adds in Badly Drawn Boy, Stars, The Shins and Rogue Wave as similar artists… All on my playlist and on my shelf… well… hard drive!
The whole album is delicious… Such a great listen from start to finish!
My favorite track is the one after this one… “Start Today Tomorrow”… so Death Cab For Cutie and so good… so simple and so poetic…
“Sometimes I get the feeling that I’ve always known you.
I’ve been so damn sure that I’ve been here before.
I’ll rise above my sorrow
And start today tomorrow
The rain’s gone, here come the swallows.
let’s start today tomorrow”
AllMusic raves: “The Beach Boys Pet Sounds was an obvious inspiration, and one the band borrowed too, especially for “On a String,” but there’s plenty of glamour and elegance shot through the set as well. On “Sorry” the guitars are positively iridescent, on “Dead Zoo” they glow, and on the surging “Under the Underpass” they shine and pulse, just a bit blurred to bring out the song’s epic quality.”
This is such a great way to start the week… and if you are out in Sunny CA, you know it is a cloudless sky and 73 glorious degrees… Sorry…
I miss New Jersey, and NYC… especially knowing that Bruce is at MSG tonight…
Hey Russ and my brother Dan… you both are bitches!!! (I said lovingly…)
I miss Chicago a lot, too… but it is hard not to love this So. Cal day…
May you all have an amazing and dream fulfilling week!
