What is the best kind of music to listen to when your college team just blew a big game? And make no mistake, NU GAVE that game to the Spartans… We fumbled in the red zone… then let them drive down the field for a score… in something like 5 plays… Thanks #s 3 and 15… That’s 14 points right there… and then that punt… OMG… They would have had the ball at the 50 right before the half, and maybe three… the punt was that bad. But no… let’s make it worse… we don’t kick it deep to the sidelines… we kick a squiggler right to one of their best players and he runs it back for a TD… Less than a minute before the half… AAAGGGHHH!!!
Such is the state of our season this year… More frustrating than it has been for a long, long time.
And to continue with my sports woes… I am torn as to who to cheer for tonight.. The Hawks or The Kings… I guess I’ll go for the Kings since my buddy Rob is taking J and I and is a huge Kings fan… as am I when they are not playing the Rangers… or usually, the Hawks…
And realistically, it is an issue I am happy to have. I love hockey… I love college football… But… I HATE pro-basketball and think it is a little sad to hear these sportscasters saying how today is the best day in LA sports history… and the happiest day of their year… all because the lockout might be over… like that is on the same level as curing cancer and ending war… Sheesh! Get a life… The owners AND the players are a bunch of rich babies.
Look at what football players put on the line… their lives… for no guaranteed contracts and a who cares attitude after they retire and die from head injuries… Disgusting.
Wow, that turned into a bit of a rant… Sorry… Guess I need to hear a little head banging “tuneage!”
Anvil – Monument of Metal: The Very Best of Anvil
Yes, this is a greatest hits collection, but so what I say… It is a good way to get a taste of this fun, Canadian band.
One cannot discuss Anvil without talking about the amazing documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, directed by Sacha Gervasi, who also wrote film and was an Anvil roadie. If you have not seen this, rent it tonight. Seriously… It is much better with an audience in a theatre, but since that is no longer an option stream it… or rent it… or buy it… It is such a great movie… Incredibly frustrating, but ultimately one of the most uplifting things you will ever experience.
I describe it as a true life version of Spinal Tap. There are amazing laughs, genuine tears, but ultimately it is the story of a lifelong friendship, a lifelong passion and a never give up attitude. Amazing!!!
The movie focuses on Steve “Lips” Kudlow (lead vocals, lead guitar), Robb Reiner (drums). I believe it received one of the highest scores on Rotten Tomatoes… EVER!
“To date, the band has released fourteen studio albums, and has been cited as having influenced many notable heavy metal groups, including Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and Metallica.”
“Upon its release, the film garnered critical acclaim from many major publications, and has since brought the band renewed recognition, including opening slots with AC/DC and Saxon.”
If you like metal, you will love this greatest hits collection… I’m not saying it is the greatest music in the world… and I readily admit metal is not an area of great knowledge and understanding for me… but this is what I needed and wanted to hear today… and it put a big old smile on my face!
So imagine me growling and snarling and flashing the heavy metal fingers!!!
